
The refrigerator is the kitchen equipment that consumes the most energy, which is understandable given that it is the only one that operates every day of the year. However, paying attention to the proper counsel can reduce a portion of this cost.

You must also inculcate daily practices in your life that reduce power consumption of your refrigerator.
Never use this appliance near a hot source.
Start by paying attention to where you set this gadget if you want to prevent wasting energy with it. In a paper, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) explains it and advises against placing it near heat sources such as radiators, ovens, or electric stoves. They warn, “I would expend more energy to keep the proper temperature inside.”
In a similar vein, they recommend putting it somewhere where it won’t get direct sunlight, but it will work harder to cool down. It’s also important to provide room around the device, preventing adhering it to other furniture, gadgets, or walls. There must be enough space for air to circulate, thus a few millimetres should be left.
It’s time to pay attention to our refrigerator’s use now that it’s in a good location, and the first step is to level it properly: Set the temperature selection to a number that is not too low: a refrigerator interior temperature of 5° C is sufficient to keep most foods fresh. If the level is correct, every time you open the door, it will close properly, preventing cold losses.
It’s best to keep some distance between foods.
It’s also not a good idea to open the door every two times three. As a result of the loss of cold air, more energy is consumed. The fan in refrigerators is in charge of balancing the temperatures inside. When we open the door, it comes to a halt. Because cold air exits rapidly, it’s best to shut the door right away so you don’t have to exert as much effort later to get the temperature back to normal. As a result, leaving it open while the purchase is stored would be a mistake; it is preferable to close it.

But let’s take it one step at a time, starting with the moment when you order food straight from your shopping bag. At this point, you’ve probably realised that saving begins with the shopping list: if you bring too much food from the market, it will cost a lot of money to store it using these techniques, and your fridge will most likely have to work harder to keep them cool. Furthermore, you may wind up discarding food that you have not had time to consume or that you have hidden so cleverly between the door and shelves that you have not noticed.

When storing food, it’s best to follow the ‘First in, First out’ (FIFO) principle, which means “the first thing that goes in is the first thing that goes out.” To do so, keep track of expiration dates and favoured eating dates, and put the foods that need to be consumed first on the shelves, followed by the new ones.
Separate raw and cooked foods, use airtight containers, and store meat and fish, as well as more perishable foodstuffs in general, on the lower, colder shelves.
The location in which we store food has an impact on its preservation. For example, the drawers contain various preservation conditions, such as more humidity, which helps the vegetables last longer.
When it comes to leftovers that are still hot, never put them in the fridge. Allow heated foods and beverages to cool to room temperature. If you do, the device’s temperature will change, and you’ll have to expend more energy to keep the cold stable, as in the other scenarios we’ve discussed. The same goes for the freezer.
