With Wordle being purchased by New York Times, many Wordle fans fear its popularity will become paywall-bound. Luckily, several free browser-based alternatives have since appeared as possible solutions.
These games feature the same basic concept as Qourdle, changing tiles green and yellow to indicate correct letter or placement, but add unique twists such as using numbers or offering endless rounds.
1. Hello Wordl
Hello Wordl is another variation of the beloved Wordle game, offering players an option of four to 11-letter word limits.
Josh Wardle initially created and sold this game to New York Times for publication, where it quickly became a worldwide sensation with millions of players worldwide and inspiring numerous spinoffs and clones.
2. Heardle
Heardle follows in the footsteps of Wordle and its subsequent acquisition by The New York Times for seven-figures, but replaces words with music instead. It has proven so successful that Spotify acquired it last year!

3. Dordle
Dordle offers several advantages over Wordle, such as allowing players to share a grid of green and yellow emojis showing their score without spoiling the day’s word of the day.
Mr. Wardle created this game to keep him and his partner occupied during a pandemic outbreak. He attributes its success to its simplicity and scarcity.
4. Quordle
Quordle can be thought of as “the yassification of Wordle,” offering players nine chances to guess words (versus only six on Wordle) and also boasting Sequence mode.
Octordle, Dordle and Sedecordle resemble Wordle but require more rows and columns of words to solve. Each game offers its own challenges – for instance Octordle requires 13 guesses before solving its puzzle!
5. Antiwordle
Wordle fans who seek more challenging puzzles should try Antiwordle, which gives players six chances each day to guess the five-letter word of the day and see its tiles change color when closer to solving it.
Queerdle, often called the “yassification of Wordle”, involves guessing four-letter swear words in this explicit clone of Wordle. SWordle offers Star Wars-themed challenges with AI opponents that pit your brainpower against an increasingly difficult AI opponent.
6. Waffle
Wordle’s popularity has given birth to several imaginative variations on its core idea. These games take Wordle as their foundation, adding fun twists such as themes or unlimited rounds of play.
If you love Taylor Swift, Taylordle offers six chances for guessing each five-letter song title of Taylor’s five songs released within five months. Tiles turn green, yellow or gray depending on your selections; plus there’s also an archive of past Wordles to practice your strategy!
7. Absurdle
Wordle’s success inspired numerous imitations that attempted to emulate its virality, but Absurdle stands out. An adversarial game wherein an automated system leads you forward at random and requires patience and persistence in order to win.
Wordle remains similar in concept: guess a five-letter word within six attempts and watch tiles change color depending on how close they are to being correct. Unfortunately, only one puzzle per day is currently allowed by this game.
8. SWordle
Star Wars fans can now experience Wordle — or at least its clone — in Aurebesh, the language spoken by its droids. SWordle gives players six chances to guess a five-letter word and displays green when correct or yellow when an error has been made in spelling it correctly or incorrectly.
Popularity can be attributed to simplicity, scarcity and social experience of this game. Players only get one play every day which builds anticipation and keeps players coming back for more!
9. Typeshift
