Scrapping allowance, better known as scrapping premium, is a scheme that applies to passenger cars (M1) up to max. 9 people incl. the driver and small vans (N1) under 3,500 kg. When you hand in your car for scrap and environmental treatment at an environmentally approved scraper, you are entitled to a tax-free scrap premium of DKK 2,200. If your car cannot drive to the scrapper itself, you can have it picked up. You should check with the car wrecker yourself if this will incur an extra cost.

See list of approved scrapers
You are entitled to be able to hand over your car to scrapers and importers free of charge. The scrapper must also, and free of charge, help you complete your electronic scrapping certificate in the digital payout system (DUS) so that you can get your scrapping premium.
But do you need further assistance for e.g. to hand over the number plates, the scrapper must charge an administration fee for this extra work.
Locate a car wrecker on this list
Search for the car
Press start and have your private or company’s NemID ready. Search and select the car via its registration number (number plate) and find a selected scrapper from the list. Are you exempt from NemID? Then look further down the page.

Approve the case
Save and approve the scrapping request and exit. Now you have to wait for the shredder to accept at its end of the digital system.
How should the car be handed over?
In the meantime, you can contact the scrapper and agree on whether you should hand over the car or whether it should be picked up.
Unregister the car
Also agree with the shredder whether he will unregister the car or you must do it yourself. Most scrappers offer to be responsible for the practicalities of deregistering in the Motor Register.
Scrapping certificate
Keep an eye on your e-Box. When the car has been scrapped, a scrapping certificate is sent to your e-Box. If you are exempt from digital mail, you will be notified by ordinary letter.
Payment of the scrap premium
We pay your Skrotpræmie of DKK 2,200 to your NemKonto within 14 days after the car has been scrapped and you have received the scrapping certificate. The certificate comes to your digital mailbox, alternatively it is sent as a regular letter.
The scrap premium is paid if you meet the following criteria:
Registered owner
You must be the latest registered owner of the car. This means that it is your CPR number and the car’s registration number that is in the Engine Register. Check if necessary your registration certificate. If you are not the cars most recently registered owner, you can in very special cases apply for a dispensation via the digital system.
The car has been deregistered
Your car must be deregistered in the Motor Register after 30 June 2000.
The car has been handed in to an approved scraper
Your car must have been picked up or handed in to a scrapper approved by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. Dealers and car repair shops can, by agreement with an approved scrapper, also be the drop-off point.
The car must not be exported
Your car must not be exported afterwards. I.e. it may not be registered in another country after deregistration in the Motor Register, and no refund of registration tax may have been obtained.
